What is JSON?
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight, language-independent data interchange format. Because it is easy for humans to read and write, and easy for machines to parse and generate, it has become the standard format for sending data across the web (such as in REST APIs).
JSON structures data in key-value pairs ("key": "value") and arrays ([1, 2, 3]), closely mimicking how objects are structured in JavaScript.
Why do I need to format JSON?
When APIs transmit JSON data, they usually minify it—stripping out all spaces, line breaks, and indentation to save bandwidth. While this is great for computer networks, it makes the data completely unreadable for humans.
A JSON Formatter (also known as a JSON beautifier or pretty-printer) restores standard indentation and line breaks so you can easily read, debug, and understand the structure of the data.
Zero Server Uploads
Your data is 100% secure. OmniTools operates on a strict "Zero Server Upload" architecture. When you paste your JSON payload into this tool, the formatting and validation happen entirely locally within your browser using native JavaScript parsing.
Your sensitive API keys, customer data, and payloads never leave your device and are never transmitted to our backend servers.
