What is Base64?
Base64 is a standard encoding scheme that converts raw binary data (like images, compiled files, or arbitrary byte sequences) into an ASCII string format using a 64-character alphabet (A-Z, a-z, 0-9, +, /). It is commonly used when there is a need to encode binary data to be transmitted over media that are designed to deal with textual data.
Encoding vs. Encryption
It is crucial to understand that Base64 encoding is not encryption.
- Encoding (like Base64) is simply translating data into a different format for systems to read. Anyone can decode a Base64 string instantly without a key or password.
- Encryption (like AES or RSA) scrambles data so that it can only be read by someone who possesses the decryption key.
You should never use Base64 to secure passwords or hide sensitive data!
Local Processing Guarantee
Your data is 100% secure. OmniTools operates on a strict "Zero Server Upload" architecture. When you decode API keys, auth headers, or proprietary strings, it happens entirely in your web browser using native btoa() and atob() functions.
Your plaintext strings and encoded strings never leave your device and are never transmitted to our backend servers.
