What is URL Encoding?
URL Encoding (also known as Percent-encoding) is a mechanism for encoding information in a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI). URLs can only be sent over the internet using the ASCII character-set.
Because URLs often contain characters outside the ASCII set (or characters with special meaning like spaces, &, or =), they must be converted into a valid ASCII format. URL encoding replaces these unsafe ASCII characters with a % followed by two hexadecimal digits.
When should I use this?
URL encoding is critical when you need to pass complex data within a web address. Common use cases include:
- Passing entire JSON objects or Base64 strings in query parameters.
- Fixing broken affiliate links or callback URLs that contain spaces.
- Escaping HTML form data before making a GET or POST request.
Absolute Privacy
Your data is completely safe. OmniTools operates on a strict "Zero Server Upload" architecture. Pasting sensitive URLs (such as those containing session tokens, internal staging IPs, or authentication keys) is entirely secure.
The encoding and decoding process is handled by your browser's native encodeURIComponent() and decodeURIComponent() functions, ensuring your data never touches our servers.
